Show Notes

Bio:

Noor Kyle George has been meandering a Sufi-esque path for over a decade and, along the way, somehow grew into a teacher in spite of herself when her teacher invited her to do so. She is a co-founder and co-faciliator of The Nine-Sided Circle, a mostly-virtual, no-mystery school in which the wisdoms of esoteric traditions and members’ life experiences are drawn upon in support of the pursuit of human adulthood and conscious Awakening. She co-hosts live public talks via Zoom every week -- anyone interested can join by connecting with The Nine-Sided Circle on Facebook or signing up for the NSC email list for updates. The replays are all posted on YouTube. Get in touch with her personally via Facebook or Instagram to talk about sex and gender in modern Sufism, the death(s) of “identity”, singing as an embodied spiritual practice, and/or the virtues of ice cream. (She's provisionally open to other subjects too.)

Practice:
Currently, I'd say I'm taking renewed benefit from just remembering throughout the day to breathe well, as in breathe deeply and with good pauses after the exhale. It's easy for me to get caught up in the limited routine of pandemic life while staying at home all the time and not moving around much. Shallow breathing is part of how that manifests for me. Challenging that sneaky pattern feels good.

Books:
Recently I finished a book in audiobook format called "To Be Honest: A Memoir" by Michael Leviton, narrated by the author. It was so educational! A guy raised to be chronically, guilelessly, brutally honest in a way that most of us can't imagine tells us all about how that's played out for him and what he's learned about himself and others through the experience. It's hilarious and painful in terms of its revealing how much we lie to one another and ourselves. Certainly relevant for those interested in deep growth work even if that's not the target audience.
I'm reading or listening to a bunch of books concurrently, but one that stands out is called "Building Thriving Resiliency: Resistance in Toxic Times" by Carla Bergman and Nick Montgomery. I'm generally kind of disillusioned/fatigued with the activist languaging used therein, but the notions of freedom, friendship, ethics, affinity, trust, and responsibility resonate hard. I'm sticking with it to see what inspirations emerge that I can incorporate into my practices and communication as a teacher and a community member.
